Floating rate notes versus cash and term deposits
It seems like yesterday that equities were the only game in town. Remember TINA? The acronym describes the reality that ‘there is (or was) no alternative’ to stocks as yields went to zero and even negative in some regions.
Today, investors have far more choice, and in many cases, people are happily parking a chunk of assets in cash as they await clarity about the best opportunities. As is often the case with investing, investors have a choice as to where to park their hard-earned money.

Loans Create Deposits: Inside vs Outside Money
Warren Mosler talking about the difference between bank-created money and government created money.
In our floating exchange rate system, the textbook explanation of the money multiplier does not apply. Instead, loans create deposits, and the Central Bank must supply any necessary reserves after the fact in order to be able to hit their interest rate target.

The Unusualness of Platinum Ore; How Reef Deposits Form
Platinum ore bodies are some of the stangest to exist on the planet. For example, a massive deposit of platinum and palladium in Montana stretches for approximately 25 miles or 40 kilometers in length, yet its width and height are only about 6.9 feet or 2.1 meters. This video will discuss several potential mechanisms on how such platinum group "reef deposits" can form, with three theories briefly being mentioned.

Yes Bank Launches Floating-Rate Fixed Deposits
ये क्या होती है और क्या आपको Invest करना चाहिए?
Floating rate term deposits (FRTDs), as the name suggests, are a variant of fixed deposits, wherein the rate of interest is not fixed for the entire tenor of the deposit, but moves in tandem with a reference rate, which is periodically reset.
For instance, if a bank offers three-year floating rate fixed deposits with a mark-up of 1% over the prevailing repo rate (say if current repo rate is 4.9%). It means if you book floating rate fixed deposits for 3 years, you will earn returns at a 5.9% p.a. rate. However if the repo rate falls to 3% after 6 months, the rate on your floating rate fixed deposits will be revised to 4% p.a.
Floating rate fixed deposits work well when the interest rate is expected to go up in the near future.
Do keep in mind that when the interest rate trend is downward, floating rate fixed deposits can gradually become unrewarding.
Private sector lender Yes Bank on Tuesday announced the launch of floating-rate fixed deposit (FD) for domestic customers.
In this new product, the interest rate will keep fluctuating based on the changes in repo rate, allowing the customers of the bank to enjoy dynamic returns on their fixed deposits.
The minimum deposit amount of floating rate fixed deposit is Rs 10,000 and the FD scheme is only available for Resident Individuals and Non-Individuals
The revision on the FD interest rate will happen automatically and will not require any manual intervention by Yes Bank or the FD holder
There will be automatic reset of the interest rate monthly as per the applicable repo rate in the previous month.
Flexibility of choosing your tenure from 1 year to less than 3 years
One may continue to enjoy liquidity with an Overdraft facility on the FD up to 90% of the principal value.
The interest will be reset on 1st day of every month as per the applicable REPO rate on the last day of the previous month. Interest will be calculated on pro-rata basis for every month at the applicable rate of interest
Importantly, only the reinvestment option is available with payout at maturity. There is an option for premature withdrawal but with an applicable penalty.
The interest rate offered on floating rate fixed deposits is usually lower than the interest rate on FDs.
It could be a good option to invest in the floating rate fixed deposits when you expect the interest rate to increase in the near future surpassing the prevailing interest rate offered on the FDs and not drop below the existing FDs interest rate
You can also invest in FDs through the laddering technique when rates are expected to increase in the near future.
You can make your own fixed deposit laddering strategy by spreading your lumpsum fund into different FDs with different tenures. It can help you average out the interest rate in the near future and reduce opportunity costs when the interest rate increases.
Diversifying your investment into different banks can be a good option for ensuring higher returns on your investment while also minimising the risk.
